What is SEO Monitoring?

SEO monitoring is the continuous tracking of where a site ranks in search engines for a defined set of queries, broken down by country, city, language and device. Because search results are localised and often personalised, rank trackers run each query from an IP address in the target market rather than from one office connection.

A rank tracker multiplies a keyword list by every location, language and device profile a team follows, then fires one search request per combination on a schedule. The parser reads each response for the tracked domain and stores the position with a timestamp. Google accepts parameters such as gl for country and hl for interface language, but those only bias the output. Many teams track a small core set every day and cycle the long tail weekly or monthly. Bandwidth per fetch stays small while you request HTML only, and climbs fast once you render pages in a browser to capture screenshots or JavaScript-injected blocks.
