Vodafone Australia ASN, MCC/MNC and IP prefixes

Vodafone Australia is an Australian mobile network operator owned by TPG Telecom Limited. AS133612 carries its mobile network, and the registry also records AS7545, the group's fixed broadband ASN. Vodafone Australia runs 4G LTE and 5G, and its network code is MCC 505 with MNC 03.

The registry lists two ASNs for Vodafone Australia. AS133612 carries the mobile network and announced 207 IPv4 prefixes against 958 IPv6 prefixes at the last probe, and its PeeringDB record is named Vodafone Hutchison Australia and typed Cable/DSL/ISP. AS7545 sits on the same group's fixed broadband side, announced 5,841 IPv4 prefixes and 421 IPv6 prefixes, and appears in PeeringDB as TPG Telecom typed NSP. The IPv6 count on AS133612 runs well ahead of its IPv4 count.

An address whose origin ASN is AS133612 is routed by Vodafone Australia, and APNIC describes the address range behind that ASN as a mobile service provider allocation, so mobile use is documented rather than inferred. AS7545 is TPG Telecom's fixed broadband ASN and not the Vodafone mobile network, so an address originating there is a fixed line far more often than a handset. Neither ASN separates consumer from business customers, so the number alone does not identify the subscriber type.

Research note. The entire candidate ASN list for this carrier was wrong: it contained AARNet, Superloop, Verizon Australia, BBIX, the National Library of Australia and other unrelated Australian networks matched on the word 'Australia', and none of them are Vodafone. The correct ASN was looked up independently: AS133612, RIPEstat holder 'VODAFONE-AS-AP - Vodafone Australia Pty Ltd', APNIC aut-num org-name 'Vodafone Australia Pty Ltd'. Its PeeringDB record is named 'Vodafone Hutchison Australia', info_type Cable/DSL/ISP, website http://www.vodafone.com.au. Mobile role is directly evidenced: APNIC inetnum 120.16.0.0 - 120.23.255.255 has netname VODAFONE and descr 'VODAFONE AUSTRALIA PTY LIMITED / Mobile Service Provider', and RIPEstat network-info returns origin AS133612 for 120.20.0.0/18 inside that block. AS7545 (TPG-INTERNET-AP, TPG Telecom Limited) is listed as the same group's fixed-broadband AS, not the Vodafone mobile network. Parent group from TPG Telecom's own brands page: 'TPG Telecom operates a number of leading mobile and internet brands including Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, Internode, Lebara and felix.' Generations from TPG Telecom's own network page, which states it 'owns and operates the nationwide Vodafone mobile network, supported by more than 5,600 mobile sites across Australia', with 5G 'reaching over 85% population coverage in Australia's 10 largest cities and regions' and 4G population coverage at 99% after the January 2025 regional network-sharing arrangement. Candidate MCC/MNC rows dropped: 505/09 is Airnet (withdrawn), 505/08 is One.Tel (withdrawn), 505/99 is attributed to Telstra, 505/13 is RailCorp GSM-R, and 505/06 and 505/12 are the defunct '3' network (network-sharing ended 2012). 505/07 is listed under the brand 'TPG Telecom' (former Vodafone) with unknown status and was left out because it is the parent brand's code, not the Vodafone consumer network; only 505/03 is the operational Vodafone MNC.
