About China Mobile

China Mobile is a mobile network operator in China, held by China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. (CMCC). The registry records AS9808 as its mobile backbone ASN, alongside seven provincial CMNET networks that also carry a mobile role. Its recorded mobile country and network code pair is 460-00, and the operator runs 4G LTE and 5G.

The registry records eight ASNs for China Mobile, and all eight carry a documented mobile role. AS9808 is the group network; the rest are provincial CMNET networks for Shanghai (AS24400), Henan (AS24445), Tianjin (AS38019), Guangdong (AS56040), Zhejiang (AS56041), Liaoning (AS56044) and Jiangsu (AS56046). At the last probe AS9808 announced 14,390 IPv4 prefixes against 7,181 IPv6 prefixes, and every provincial ASN was announcing routes as well. PeeringDB holds a record for AS9808 only, naming China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. and typing it NSP.

An address whose origin ASN is one of these eight is routed by China Mobile. Each has a documented mobile role, so such an address is expected to sit on the operator's mobile network, though a mobile-role ASN can still carry fixed or business circuits and the ASN by itself does not identify the access technology. A provincial ASN narrows an address to one regional CMNET network rather than to the group backbone. PeeringDB adds nothing past AS9808, so the provincial entries rest on registry holder names.

AS9808 is the only China Mobile ASN among the RIPE asn.txt candidates; every other candidate in the list is China Telecom, China Unicom, CERNET, CNNIC or an unrelated institution and was rejected. PeeringDB AS9808 record: name 'China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd.', website chinamobileltd.com, type NSP. Provincial CMNET ASNs (56040/56041/56044/56046/24400/24445/38019) were added from RIPEstat holder names containing 'China Mobile'/'Mobile Communications'; PeeringDB was rate-limited (HTTP 429) for those so confirmation is RIPEstat only. AS58453 (China Mobile International, Hong Kong) and AS9231 (China Mobile Hong Kong) exist but are outside mainland China and were omitted. AS9394 China TieTong is in the candidate list; RIPEstat confirms holder 'China TieTong Telecommunications Corporation' but no fetched source ties it to China Mobile, so it is omitted. MCC/MNC: Wikipedia table lists 460-00 as operational (GSM/LTE/5G); 460-02 and 460-07 are TD-SCDMA codes shut down July 2019 and were dropped; 460-04 is listed as Global Star Satellite (candidate row said China Spacecom) and dropped; 460-08 has unknown status and was not included.
