Movistar ASN, MCC/MNC and IP prefixes

Movistar is the Spanish mobile brand of Telefónica. The registry records AS3352, registered to Telefónica de España, as the ASN carrying its mobile network, and AS12956, registered to Telxius Telefónica Global Solutions, with no documented role. Movistar's recorded MCC/MNC codes are 214-07, 214-05 and 214-38.

The registry lists two ASNs for Movistar. AS3352, held by Telefónica de España, is the one recorded as carrying mobile traffic, and RIPEstat shows it as announced, although the registry counted no IPv4 and no IPv6 prefixes under it at the last probe and holds no PeeringDB record for it. AS12956 belongs to Telxius, the Telefónica Global Solutions wholesale arm, and had 28 IPv4 prefixes against 3 IPv6 prefixes at the last probe. PeeringDB names that network Telxius Cable and files it under the Cable/DSL/ISP type.

An address whose origin ASN is AS3352 or AS12956 is routed by Telefónica. No operator document separates Movistar's mobile traffic from Telefónica's fixed traffic, so the mobile role on AS3352 rests on it being the group's only domestic consumer ASN in the registry rather than on a published statement. An address there could be mobile, fixed or enterprise. AS12956 is an international wholesale network with no documented role at all. The origin ASN alone does not settle what kind of connection sits behind either address.

Research note. No asn.txt candidates were supplied; AS3352 (Telefonica_de_EspaNa, org ORG-TDE1-RIPE, announced) is the Telefónica de España AS confirmed by RIPEstat as-overview/whois and bgp.he.net (website telefonica.es). No operator document was found stating which AS carries Movistar mobile vs fixed traffic, so the 'mobile' role for AS3352 rests on it being Telefónica's sole domestic consumer AS. AS12956 is Telefónica Global Solutions/Telxius (international wholesale); role not documented. PeeringDB API was throttled for AS3352/AS12956 (no record fetched). MNC 214-07 is the main Movistar network (GSM/UMTS/LTE/5G, also used by O2 Spain); 214-05 is Telefónica Móviles España MVNO/reseller code; 214-38 is registered to Telefónica Móviles España S.A.U. with status 'Unknown' on Wikipedia (ITU OB 1177).
