What is 4G Proxy?

A 4G proxy is a mobile proxy whose exit runs on an LTE connection, using an address the mobile operator assigns to a SIM. It behaves like any phone on that network: carrier ASN, carrier geolocation, a public address shared with other subscribers, and a new one available whenever the data session is re-established.

LTE is an all-IP network with no circuit-switched leg for data. When a modem attaches, the operator sets up a bearer and assigns an address through its packet gateway, almost always a private one behind carrier grade NAT. The public address you egress from belongs to the operator's registered ranges, and that is what a site's IP intelligence lookup reads. Nothing in the packets announces the radio technology, so the classification a website makes comes from the ASN and the range it belongs to.

Most commercial mobile proxy hardware is still LTE, for practical reasons. LTE modems and dongles are cheap and draw little power, and coverage reaches places 5G has not. Firmware behaviour for AT commands and packet data context cycling is well understood on LTE chipsets, which is what makes reliable rotation possible. A 4G exit also draws less attention than you might expect, since a large share of consumer traffic on most carriers still runs over LTE rather than anything newer.

Expect asymmetric, variable performance. Downlink on a good LTE signal is comfortable for HTML and JSON at scale. Uplink is thinner, which shows when you post large payloads or upload media. Radio access adds latency that fibre does not, typically tens of milliseconds before any distance to the origin, and it wanders with signal strength and cell load through the day. Concurrency is limited by the modem rather than by the data plan, so pushing too many parallel connections through one SIM makes everything queue.

Two settings decide most outcomes. Rotation interval controls how long an address stays yours, and it has to match the task: a fresh IP per request for search results, a held address for anything with a login. Country and carrier selection controls what the target believes about your location, since operator ranges geolocate to the carrier's registration rather than to the tower you attached to. Check what the target sees rather than what the dashboard says; the two disagree often enough to be worth a test.

A 4G proxy is what you get when you buy "mobile proxies" from most providers, so the label is worth understanding before comparing prices. You notice the difference in operation: a run that sailed through on datacenter IPs and started tripping challenges will usually come back to life on LTE, at a lower request rate and a higher cost per page. Common questions

Is a 4G proxy good enough, or should I pay for 5G?

For acceptance rates, LTE and 5G are equivalent: the same carrier, the same address ranges, the same lookup result. 5G helps when throughput or round-trip time limits you, such as full page rendering or media transfer. For HTML and API scraping, 4G is normally the better price per gigabyte.

How do you get a new IP on a 4G proxy?

By forcing the modem to re-attach to the network, whether through an airplane mode toggle, cycling the packet data connection over AT commands, or calling the provider's rotation endpoint. The carrier then assigns an address from its pool. Whether it differs from the last one depends on pool size and how the operator recycles addresses.

Why is my 4G proxy slow?

Usually the radio or the modem rather than the proxy software. Signal quality and the number of connections sharing one SIM both cut throughput, and cell congestion at peak hours makes it worse. LTE uplink is thinner than downlink, so posting large bodies suffers first. Reduce concurrency per port and stop loading images and fonts.

Residential Proxy
A residential proxy routes requests through an IP address that an internet service provider assigned to a home connection, so traffic appears to come from a consumer household. Lookups return the ISP's ASN and a residential classification. Pools are usually large and rotating, drawn either from real consumer devices or from ISP-registered ranges.
Datacenter Proxy
A datacenter proxy runs on a server in a hosting facility, using an IP address registered to a cloud or colocation provider rather than to a consumer ISP or a mobile carrier. It is fast and cheap, and it is the easiest kind for a website to identify, because hosting ranges are public knowledge.
Rotating Proxy
A rotating proxy changes the exit IP address it presents to the target, either on every request or on a timer, without the client changing its configuration. Your code keeps pointing at one host and port; the provider swaps the address behind it, spreading traffic across a pool of many IPs.
Static Proxy
A static proxy keeps the same exit IP address for the life of the rental, so every request through it reaches the target from one identity. Providers sell static datacenter, static residential (ISP) and static mobile lines. Stability is both the benefit and the exposure, since a single flagged action attaches to an address you keep using.
Shared Proxy
A shared proxy carries traffic from several customers through the same exit IP or the same pool of addresses. Sharing spreads the cost of the underlying line across users, which is why shared plans price lower per gigabyte. What you give up is control, since another customer's activity shapes the reputation of the address you send through.
Private Proxy
A private proxy is allocated to one customer, so no other user of the provider sends traffic through the same exit address. Exclusivity buys predictable bandwidth and a reputation history you alone create. On residential and mobile networks the address is still shared with the carrier's own subscribers, which is a different kind of sharing.
