Iowa's capacity is split rather than pooled in one city. Davenport has the biggest single building, SFN IA-Davenport with 19 networks, and Bettendorf next to it adds the Bluebird Quad Cities Data Center at 9. Des Moines and its neighbours carry a similar load between Connect Des Moines, Cologix DSM1 and the two LightEdge rooms in Altoona. Three exchanges run in the state, QCIX in Davenport with 63 participants, DesMoinesIX with 8 and SIOUIX in Sioux City with 1, so in-state peering happens mostly at the Quad Cities fabric.

An Iowa address in a database comes from the record the operator published for that block, not from a measurement of where the device sits. Registrations follow company addresses, and a network with a presence in Des Moines can file blocks to Iowa while those addresses serve users across several states. Mobile networks concentrate this again. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon route subscriber sessions through regional gateways, so a phone connected in Iowa can appear to be in a neighbouring state.

The prefix holds better evidence than a city label. Read the origin ASN on the route and the netname on the block. A route originating from a carrier mobile ASN, such as 6167 for Verizon or 16572 for AT&T, points to a national pool where the state field reflects a filing rather than a place. Iowa's 101 facility presences and 72 exchange participants say where networks interconnect, and they say nothing about which addresses land in which town.
