What a New Mexico IP address tells you

Every facility recorded in New Mexico sits in Albuquerque. H5 Data Centers Albuquerque lists 19 networks, more than half the state's 32 presences, and bigbyte.cc follows with six, Oso Grande Technologies with four and Centersquare ABQ1 with three. Three further Albuquerque entries, ServerCondo-219, Southwest Cyberport and 505 Marquette, record no networks at all in the snapshot. Traffic has one local meeting point. ABQIX lists 12 participants, the same number as the peers counted for New Mexico, so networks that peer in the state do it in Albuquerque.

A New Mexico IP address describes the record behind the block. Geolocation providers read the address an operator registers, so a range entered under an Albuquerque address can front hardware anywhere that operator runs it. Mobile networks concentrate subscribers behind a few gateways, which widens the gap again. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon announce subscriber traffic from mobile ASNs such as 20057, 21928 and 6167, and a handset on a New Mexico cell site can present an address a database reads as another state.

Checking the origin ASN and the netname on the prefix gives a firmer answer than the state field. A prefix from one of the carrier mobile ASNs is part of a pool whose city entry follows the carrier's registration, while a prefix from a network present at H5 Data Centers Albuquerque or Oso Grande Technologies has a facility record you can read directly. With one city in the snapshot, a New Mexico result already points at Albuquerque, but it says nothing about the building or the network.

Mobile carriers in the United States

A mobile address anywhere in New Mexico is routed by one of the country's operators. Each entry lists the operator's ASNs so you can check which network an address belongs to.

Questions

How many data centres are in New Mexico?

Seven facilities appear in the New Mexico snapshot, all of them in Albuquerque, with 32 network presences between them. H5 Data Centers Albuquerque holds 19 of those, bigbyte.cc six and Oso Grande Technologies four, and three of the seven record none.

Is there an internet exchange in New Mexico?

One. ABQIX in Albuquerque records 12 participants, matching the 12 peers counted for the state. No other exchange appears in the New Mexico snapshot, so traffic that peers either reaches ABQIX or leaves the state to find a peering point.

Can I get an IP address in New Mexico?

Placement follows the operator's address registration, not a customer's choice of state. An address reads as New Mexico when the network holding the block publishes a New Mexico address. Mobile ranges often read differently, because carriers register pools centrally and route subscribers through regional gateways.
