Southfield holds the bulk of Michigan's recorded capacity. Three 123.NET buildings sit there, and the one at 24700 Northwestern Hwy counts 61 networks by itself, ahead of EdgeConneX Detroit at 14 and 365 Data Centers Detroit at 9. Byron Center comes next with 123.NET DC4 at 12 networks, then Troy with the two ManagedWay rooms and Royal Oak with Liberty Center One. Networks that want to swap traffic without leaving the state can do it at DET-iX in Detroit, which lists 80 participants.

A Michigan address in a geolocation database comes from the record an operator published for that block, not from any measurement of the device. Registrations track company paperwork, so a network with an office in Southfield can register addresses to Michigan while the customers using them sit elsewhere. Mobile traffic stretches this further. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon concentrate subscriber sessions behind regional gateways, so a handset connected in Michigan can present an address that databases place in a different state.

The prefix carries better evidence than the city label. Read the origin ASN on the route and the netname on the block. A route originating from one of the carrier mobile ASNs, such as 20057 for AT&T or 21928 for T-Mobile, points to a national pool where the state field reflects a registration rather than a location. Michigan's 149 facility presences and 80 exchange participants describe where networks interconnect, and they say nothing about which addresses end up in which town.
